An Auction will take place on June 13 (Silent Auction June 11-13) with Proceeds Supporting local Prince Edward County Organizations.
Updated June 2 (April 20, 2015) – PICTON, Ontario – On June 13, a live art auction of original art works collected over several decades by Jack and Ruby Lockyer Ward will be held at Books and Company in Picton (289 Main Street). There are 110 pieces in a silent auction and an additional 70 pieces of art for the live auction. All pieces will be available for viewing from June 11 to June 13.
Jack and Ruby Lockyer Ward were life-long County residents, well-known for their involvement in many community activities and enthusiastic support for a wide range of charitable organizations. Ruby was the chairperson of the Salvation Army Red Shield Campaign, a prime fundraiser for the restoration of Glenwood Cemetery. Jack was a charter member of the Picton Kiwanis Club and long-time Board member of the Picton United Church. Ruby, a florist by trade and owner of the Lockyer Flower Shoppe, passed away in 2006. After practicing law in Picton for over 45 years, Jack passed away in 2011.
In 2014, the Ward family established the Jack and Ruby Lockyer Ward Fund with the County Community Foundation. In creating this Fund, the family stipulated that proceeds from the art sale support the following: Hospice Prince Edward Foundation, the PEC Memorial Hospital Foundation, and the County Community Foundation.
This remarkable art collection includes works by well-known artists such as Tom Matthews, Luc Deschamps, Doug Forsythe, Hilton Hassell, Chantal Poulin, Arthur Schilling and James Woods.
There are also County landscapes and scenes, in both the Live and Silent Auction, painted by acclaimed local artists such as Linda Barber, Marcel Blanchette, Donna Cameron, Susan Chambers, Michael Fischer, Mia Lane, Dayna Law, Tom Mathews and Susan Straiton. Abstract works by Richard Brozozowski are also in the auction.
Silent auction items are by a multitude artists and include R.G. Miller, Sue Straiton, Charles Suscan, Winston Smith, Donna Cameron.
Over 100 pieces of art in the silent auction will only be available for bidding in person at Books & Co. June 11, 12 and 13 from the hours of 9:00 to 6:00, except on June 13 when bidding for the silent auction will be extended until 6:45. Successful bidders will be announced at the live auction event at 7:00 on June 13. Any winners not present the live auction will be notified by e-mail of their successful bids as soon as feasible.
The 70 works in the collection that will be sold in the live auction are also available for reserve bids in advance by calling the Oeno Gallery. Reserved bidding will end at 6:00 on June 12. Both silent and live auction items will be on display until the commencement of the live auction at 7:00 pm on the evening of the 13th. The live auction will be conducted by auctioneer Jim Nelson, who has generously volunteered his services for the event.
Only 250 tickets are available. The cost is $20 per ticket, and includes a wine reception from 5:30 until 7:00, a bidders paddle, a hard copy of the catalogue, and the ability to be present when the silent auction closes at 6:45 pm, and the live auction commences at 7:00 pm and runs until 9:00 pm June 13, 2015.
Advance tickets are available at Oeno Gallery or from members of the Foundations (contacts listed below). Absentee reserve bids may be placed by registering through the Oeno Gallery 613-393-2216 after June 1 until 6:00 June 12. Net proceeds from ticket sales and auction items will be donated to the designated charities. All paintings will be subject to HST and must be paid for at the auction by cheque or credit card. All works of art must be claimed by 4:00 on June 14. If arranged in advance, delivery may be available for an additional charge.
