County groups receive early Christmas presents!
Picton, Ontario: The Prince Edward County Community Foundation is thrilled to announce the recipients of this year’s grants from its Community Fund. As with previous year’s Community Fund grants, this money will be used to fund a wide variety of community projects and programs, including a girls leadership program, a family food program, women’s security, youth employment, education and athletics.
The Community Foundation gave a total of $15,000 to six County charities. This year’s recipients include women fleeing abusive situations, and the volunteers who support them at Alternatives for Women; the Hub Child and Family Centre’s Healthy Food Healthy Families program, which teaches young families basic food
skills and preparation and provides meals; Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association, and additional ice user groups who have been working towards purchasing rink dividers that will ensure that more children are able to participate safely in various programs, now and in the future.
Recipients also include The Young Company, a program initiated by Festival Players in 2013. The program is a career-oriented, positive work experiences program for local youth interested in working in the performing arts. A grant will also go to Girls Rock-It, a healthy living and peer support program of the Recreation Outreach Centre (ROC) for girls in grade 7 and 8.
“We are very grateful for the support of the donors who have made these grants possible. It’s what community foundations are designed to do” says Foundation Chair Joan Pennefather. “The Community Fund received approximately $45,000 in requests for funding this year, and while we wish we could have supported them all, we are grateful to be able to make a difference in this way.”
The County Community Foundation can accept donations of cash and securities; donations by credit card are also gladly accepted. Just go to www.countyfoundation.ca and clicking on the Donate button. A reminder: in order to receive a 2013 tax receipt, there are only 4 weeks left in which to donate!
