The Community Garden pilot project, coordinated by the Food Security working group, has been awarded a $3000 grant from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF)!
Founded by TD Bank Group in 1990, TD FEF is a national charity that funds a wide range of environmental initiatives, with a primary funding focus on environmental education, urban greening, enhancing biodiversity, and energy conservation.
TD FEF’s unique organizational structure allows dollars donated in a community to be directly invested in environmental programs in that community.
And the new Community Garden being built in Picton’s Delhi Park by community volunteers is the perfect match. Funds received will be used to purchase equipment, supplies and materials such as rain barrels, composters, plants and seeds for the garden. Funding for the garden has also been provided through a Community Grant from the County of Prince Edward as well as donations from the Green Trust, Loyalist Contractors, and the Awesome Foundation.
Vital Signs is a project of the County Community Foundation. The Vital Signs report published in 2013 provided fact-based information about issues affecting the well-being of County families and residents. This report led to the establishment of three working groups involving over 30 community organizations to address the issues of Food Security, Learning and Getting Around.
