The County Trades Scholarship is a new fund (January 2023) supported by an anonymous donor who is passionate about advancing education in the trades and removing barriers to post-secondary education in this sector.

Each year The County Trades Scholarship will be awarded, in the amount of $10,000 for a period of two years (total scholarship amount of $20,000), to two graduating students from PECI pursuing post-secondary studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution for the Trades.

There is a huge demand in the skilled trades, as skilled trade workers are retiring faster than they’re being replaced.
“Skilled trades can be first-class career opportunities with high pay, with pensions, with benefit plans.” Skills Ontario CEO Ian Howcroft

Preference will be given to programs that are eligible for red seal status  and to those with the greatest financial need. Two scholarships will be awarded annually, one selected through the application process and one through teacher nomination.

Funds will first be allocated towards the cost of tuition, books and program fees. Any residual funds will be disbursed monthly to the student to support purchasing related tools for their trade and/or cost of living expenses, pending proof of continued enrollment and good standing in their respective programs. A change in programs or institutions will require approval and be considered on a case-by-case basis.

“The County Foundation is thrilled to be supporting this opportunity to PECI students pursuing continued education in the trades."
Dominique Jones, Executive Director
