Marjorie Sero Stailkovich Bursary

The Marjorie Sero Stailkovich Bursary has been established to support Indigenous education and life-long learning in the Prince Edward and Hastings area.
Marjorie Sero Stailkovich.
The Marjorie Sero Stailkovich bursary is a $2,000 bursary awarded annually to an aspiring Indigenous student from Hastings/Prince Edward County area pursuing post-secondary studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution or continued education through learning facilities or centres.

Preference will be given to a student pursuing education to further Indigenous culture and community including but not limited to food sovereignty, languages and culture. Other worthwhile endeavours will also be considered.

Marjorie (Margery) Sero Stailkovich was born to Julia Lewis and Joseph Sero Sr. of Tyendinaga in October 1904. In 1923, she married Peter Stailkovich, an immigrant from Serbia, and they had a son, Pervel Stailkovich, along with many other children who unfortunately did not survive.  Marjorie died in January 1950 at the young age of 45 without knowing the legacy she would pass on.  Her granddaughter, Marjorie Matthews, established this memorial fund to honour her life, her beauty, her proud heritage and recognize and support the determination and dreams of other Indigenous young people.
