Helping PEC Families: A New Home for the Matt Stever Fund at The County Foundation
The Matt Stever Fund has found a new home within The County Foundation in partnership
with the Rotary Club of Picton. The Matt Stever Fund was created to assist families in Prince
Edward County who suffer hardship due to severe illness, accident or death of a child.
The Matt Stever Fund was established by Mary and Roger Stever following the death of their son, Matt, who passed away after sustaining a serious and eventually fatal accident while living and working in Taiwan. The support of the Prince Edward County community allowed them to be at their son’s bedside following his accident, which inspired them to establish this fund to allow other families who might go through this wrenching experience to have the benefit of the support that they were offered.
"We are very grateful for the County Foundation and their dynamic role in The Matt Stever Fund," the Stever family expressed. "We hope their involvement will help to reach families in our community who are facing the anguish of a child’s illness or accident. This Fund provides essential support, easing the financial burden of travel, accommodation, and other expenses related to a child’s treatment. These costs can be overwhelming for parents, but the support from The Matt Stever Fund allows them to focus on their child. It also brings hope and love, as a community unites to support families in need. We as a family have experienced this love and we know the impact Matt’s Fund can have on other families.”
The County Foundation will manage the Matt Stever Fund, accept grant applications from qualifying families in need, as well as accepting donations for those interested in supporting. The Fund will be administered in collaboration between The Rotary Club of Picton and the Stever Family. The County Foundation will accept applications for the Matt Stever Fund on an ongoing basis throughout the year and application forms can be found here for those looking for assistance or know a family that could benefit from this support.

"During the most difficult time of our lives, the Matt Stever Fund allowed us to focus on what was most important; being able to grieve together as a family and help us in knowing that we weren’t alone and so supported.
