About Matt and his fund

Matt Stever was a promising young Prince Edward County man who was living and working in Taiwan when he sustained a serious and eventually fatal accident. His parents, Roger and Mary Stever, were in part supported during this time by the PEC community. This support allowed them to be at their son’s bedside following his accident.

They felt that, based on their experiences, they wanted to set up a fund which would allow other families who might go through this wrenching experience to have the benefit of the support that they were offered. Correspondingly, with the leftover funds and with funds subsequently raised by the community, they have established this fund in the memory of their son. The fund is administered by The County Foundation and the Rotary Club of Picton, along with the Stever family.

Testimonials

"When our Matt was critically injured, our family was tremendously blessed by the outpouring of love and support from our community.  In turn, we hope that families in our community who are burdened by injury or sickness of a child can also be assisted by the Matt Stever Fund."

"During the most difficult time of our lives, the Matt Stever Fund allowed us to focus on what was most important; being able to grieve together as a family and help us in knowing that we weren’t alone and so supported. The Stever Family have taken their own tragedy and selflessly used it to help many others. We hope the Matt Stever Fund continues to touch the lives of people going through loss and hardships the same way it touched us. We will be forever thankful."

"My husband and I both had the privilege of knowing and calling Matt Stever our friend. So when we received a call from Mary and Roger Stever saying that they would like to assist us with the funding for Chance's appointment through the Matt Stever Memorial Fund, we were moved to tears. This allowed us to put our focus where it needed to be, with our son at SickKids in Toronto."

“We would just like to thank Dr. Janikowski from the Rotary Club of Picton and our generous neighbors Mary and Roger Stever for their very heartfelt donation for Robbie.  I had the pleasure of growing up across the street from the Stever family as a kid and it just so happens they are still our neighbors after 36 years! We can't express in words what it means to have you as neighbors and family. You were both right there on the phone with me finding out how Robbie was doing while we were in Ottawa.

So from the bottom of our hearts we thank you all for what you have done for our family. Words can't express our gratitude. Just know it means so much to us." Abigail and Jeremy Watson
